Exhibition catalogue “SIE hat mir der Himmel geschickt!”
The Hospiz-Akademie Bamberg celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2012 and, together with the hospice association, approached the theme of dying, death and mourning in a humorous yet reflective way. The exhibition’s success exceeded expectations. No other medium, the authors argue, could have reached viewers so directly, provoking thought while using humor and exaggeration.
The cartoons deliberately overstate, sharpen and sometimes make absurd aspects of today’s handling of death and grief. At the same time, they offer realistic and hopeful perspectives.
The exhibition was first shown in Bamberg Hospital and then travelled to more than thirty places across Germany. Hospice associations in particular used it to illuminate the topic from a different angle. The exhibition remains available as a travelling exhibition for hospice groups and initiatives.
The catalogue, supported by the Oberfrankenstiftung and Sparkasse Bamberg, had reached a total print run of more than 18,000 copies and became widely requested across Europe.
